What you're attempting to say, is important. But how many people actually follow what you're saying, is even more important. ROAD, MOVIE narrates the journey of a young man and the people he encounters on his way. But the problem is, what is ROAD, MOVIE trying to say? You're clueless! Is it about the water mafia? Is it about a touring cinema? Is it a love story between an educated youth and a gypsy? Is it a road movie? The sole factor that stands out in this film is its breath-taking locations/visuals. They are more striking than the story. And that's the sad truth! Final word? ROAD, MOVIE caters to a very, very, very, very tiny section of movie-going audience, who have an appetite for 'festival films'.Visit Site for More

Road, Movie is no English, August. It's less engaging and low on story, although, the characters are rich and the canvas is colourful. The film works slowly and sensuously, drawing you into its folksy tale of a Sheherzade-like journey through a landscape dotted with mean cops and marauding gangsters from the water mafia that rules the parched desert. The performances are eye-catching. Abhay Deol, once again proves he's hell bent on travelling the less-travelled road, while Satish Kaushik breathes life and soul into the character of the mela-hunting man from nowhere. Michel Amathieu's cinematography creates unforgettable frames of sheer beauty and the screenplay crackles with some crisp humour. Don't go looking for run-of-the-mill cinema and you will enjoy Road, Movie which is does lack story and drama.Visit Site for More

There are some fantastic moments whenever the old projector, aided by hair oil, whirrs into action, but not enough to make the film as fascinating as it deserved to be.The writing is clever, yet the dialogues frequently disappoint, clearly having been translated literally from smart English lines. Benegal's screenplay ends up, as we said, like Deol: it goes nowhere, driving aimlessly around in circles. And yet there are charming characters, and visuals to remember. Is it a roller-coaster road movie? Is it a novel tale about touring cinema? Sadly, despite immense potential, it’s neither of the two. This one is mediocre middle-of-the-road movie. Dev Benegal’s Road, Movie is designed as one of those typical festival films that pretend to be a transformative journey of a character who en route discovers the true meaning of life, love and blah blah blah.Visit Site for More
As the film comes to an end, Abhay Deol indulges in a tel malish (head massage) act onscreen. One would need an equally stimulating tel malish on watching this garbled movie. This road leads to nowhere. It simply takes you for a ride.

The two parts of the title, separated by a comma, conjure up two of the most beguiling subjects a film can have. Being on the road, journeying from point A to point B, with or without a destination, can be magical. And there’s nothing more so than the movies. Dev Benegal’s latest, which marries the two, lacks the enchantment this sort of film must necessarily possess to take hold of, and enthrall. Road, Movie is director Dev Benegal's love letter to cinema. It's a whimsical and charming celebration of the movies. Be warned: the film is slow and in parts, clunky and underwritten. But Benegal tells the tale with such tenderness and affection that you are slowly but irrevocably seduced by his vision.It's telling that in the film's title Road and Movie are separated by a comma. The film is equally about both: The lure of the open road and the transformative power of the movies. Road Movie could have done with some similar sniping and a more fleshed-out narrative. The point of this road-less journey remains mysteriously unknown though, given it’s the premise. You can’t quite place the leading man either, the wizard of pose: in Levi’s jeans, tightly trendy tee, cellphone in hand, iPod to the ears… You don’t know where he’s coming from, to figure where he’s going.What you crave from a film primarily about local films is a genuine nostalgic fondness for Bollywood as cinema. Merely montages from some popular flicks appear to disappear. References to silent star Harold Lloyd, or Buster Keaton, instead make for natives’ tastes.As the director puts it in an interview, apparently this is how 70 per cent of India still watches films. Hmmm. I am told Robert DeNiro, who’s perhaps never quite been here before, loved this movie. I’m glad.Visit Site for More
