In this tailor-made role, Sarita Joshi shows all the warmth, compassion and disposition that Gangoobai's character demands. The simplicity with which she essays this, along with her altering expressions of wonder and awe, says a lot more than dialogues (in a mix of Marathi and Hindi) and proves her extreme calibre. Priya Krishnaswamy tells a story of simple women with a not-so-simple dream. While her lead actor holds fort, the rest of the cast come up with average performances, leaving bai without much support. The film is 9-yards too long, diluting the essence. Gangoobai doesn't sweep your heart away, but leaves you with some sweet, feel-good moments.Visit Site for more

a film that explores an elderly maid’s quest for a saree of her choice has to be heartening — to say the least. Storytelling without songs happens rarely and this particular effort in that direction is appreciable. There are no fancy camera angles involved nor are the dialogues, extravagant. Gangoobai reeks of simplicity from Matheran to Mumbai and back. Her love for saree might seem complicated but it’s actually a metaphor for the things we generally desire in our life. The irony sets in when she ultimately gets what she wants. At that very instance, this heartwarming film subtly teaches us something about our generation.Visit Site for more

Whenever Gangoobai strains credibility and causes the eyebrows to disappear into the upper recesses of the forehead—and it often does—it’s useful to remember that the movie is a fairy tale. Gangoobai is the believe-it-or-not story of a domestic help from Matheran who saves up money to buy an expensive Parsi gara sari. Writer and director Priya Krishnaswamy keeps the proceedings simple and the emotions even simpler. Joshi, best known as the mater familias in the long-running television series Baa Bahoo aur Baby, gives the role her all, moving dexterously from inhibited maid amid the haute couture crowd to wise old woman who encourages Waman to pursue his love.Visit Site for more
