Frankly the film isn’t great, or even particularly memorable. But it’s a terrific showcase for Deepika’s captivating presence, her agility in demanding action scenes, and above all, her blazing confidence. What about her performance, you ask? Well, to be fair, she could pull this off with her eyes closed. xXx: Return of Xander Cage is only moderately entertaining. But for the sheer pride of watching our girl add another feather to her cap, it’s worth a watch. I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five.

Watch this one for Deepika and Vin if you're fans of the two. The action parts are fine and in good measure. It's a film that's supremely confident of what it is. And that shows. And if you're looking to be entertained, you will be. Just don't tax your brain with the way this film plays out. Trust me, you'll get a headache.

Terrific stunts, superb action, thrilling chase sequences, Deepika, Vin Diesel and Ruby Rose’ tattoos, and (spoiler alert!) Deepika-Diesel’s super hot kissing scene in the end!At times it becomes difficult to figure out whether it’s a video game or a movie and is a bit too absurd.Watch it if you are a fan of either Vin Diesel or Deepika Padukone or both. If you are an action junkie, then don’t even think of giving it a miss!

If you are a Padukone loyalist, watch it for her. Watch it for her on a bigger canvas than she’s been on, and for an Australian actress named Ruby Rose, who looks lethal the way only those with turquoise-tinged hair can, and for the two of them going down a hallway with guns in hand, badass girls going full metal Contra.  It might not be a fine film, but our Badass Indian Barbie did good in this cheesy action-figure extravaganza. Diesel just gets in the way -- probably because Padukone is electric.

Two kinds of people will go to watch this film - Deepika Padukone fans (read: people who want to see a Desi face in an international movie) and Vin Diesel fans (read: action junkies). And both will be pleased to the core. The movie caters to these specific groups, if you are one of them, watch it. Otherwise this one is not worth your money and time. It’s less substance, more style.

xXx is a great example of this. It was never meant to be anything more than what it is: An over-the-top action picture with a ridiculous plot and fun characters – you know - the sort of harmless movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. All it wants to do – and the earnestness can usually be spotted from a mile away – is to provide some folks escapist fun. And that, it does. And because it has succeeded at what it wants to achieve, it must be appreciated. It’s the only logical choice that we have.

One does not simply walk in to a Vin Diesel movie expecting compelling storytelling and thoughtful cinema, and although 'xXx’ exists in an alternate reality where the laws of physics simply don’t apply, there are enough crowd-pleasing moments to distract you from a predictable plot and departure from logic. That said, the movie has enough star power to perform well enough, particularly in Asian markets, to ensure yet another insane outing soon.

If you liked the earlier installments of xXx, Return Of Xander Cage will be total paisa vasool for you. There is action gallore, killer chases, plenty of eye candy and the movie is overall high on testesterone. In fact, there is next to no character development and thank God for that – director DJ Caruso knows what his fans want and doesn’t deviate from the tried and tested formula.xXx: Return Of Xander Cage caters to a specific crowd. If you fall in it, watch and enjoy. If you don’t, stay away.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage continues the tradition of the past two xXx films and is run-of-the-mill action Hollywood produced so relentlessly in the 80s. It has macho men playing with fire power, happily doling out their own brand of justice and not worrying about collateral damage. Logic and script are part of that aforementioned collateral but that never stopped fans from lining up in front of theatres before and it will not stop them now. Who needs logic when you can have knife fights, bike chases, machine gun mayhem and mid-air stunts? And in this particular field, xXx and director DJ Caruso outdo themselves.
