Actually the title, both the original and the amputated version, is misleading. Because the film begins with the ingenious idea of a website for lovers who want to elope but this is soon abandoned. The action moves from Amritsar to Dalhousie to Patna and the narrative becomes increasingly convoluted  The hero is set to marry a girl who loves someone else. He also loves someone else but he has introduced his girlfriend to his family as his best friend’s relative. There is general chaos, too many marriages and no signs of the website that triggered this entire harebrained plot.

When Bharose announces his plans for a 'running shaadi' website, Nimmi asks: Why? The former's response is: Hum kabhi 'why' nahin sochte, 'why not' sochte hai. When Running Shaadi was on the drawing board, why should have taken precedence over why not. It might have helped the film's cause. Even if we were to make allowances for its generally inoffensive nature, there would still be no running away from the fact that this is a shoddy shaadi, not the kind that will have you dancing in the aisles with joy.

The film somewhat loses its grip in the second half when it stretches unnecessarily. Running Shaadi comes across as a good comic caper that tackles modern day relationships in an interesting manner. It could make up for a fun watch for those who like Jab We Met, Band Baaja Baraat kind of films. Running Shaadi is a breezy entertainer in parts. Taapsee does a good job as the spunky girl. Those with a taste for romantic films with a hint of comedy will enjoy it. A 2.5/5 for this one!

A headstrong girl and a wild child at heart, Nimmy is totally in on Bharose's latest, risky business venture; a matrimonial website that helps couples elope. Until the first half, the film convinces you about their absurd business concept. But it's in the second half when the film really takes off and takes you along for a joyride. The twists, albiet expected, are entertaining and the comedy is very relevant; there's always a chuckle around. The characters are believable and face realistic dilemmas in their lives.

After he gets fired from his job, Bharose (Amit Sadh), a Bihari migrant in Amritsar, zeroes in on the idea of opening a website where he can help lovers elope and get married. His close friend Cyber (Arsh Bajwa) fuels his ambitions and his former boss’ daughter Nimmi (Taapsee Pannu) lends her credit card to buy a domain name. It was supposed to turn into a mad caper from here on, but a clogged screenplay reduces it to an average fare with occasional comic relief.

She is open to sex, drinking and buying condoms (an information the film sprinkles, for no reason at all). And yet when it comes to love, she would run away rather than tell her parents. Running Shaadi clearly has some very strange ideas about love and modernity. And stranger still when it comes to modern-day Patna, though at least that lends itself to the film’s few moments of genuine humour.

Here's the story of a girl who thankfully doesn't want to end her life after she ends up in bed on her first date (with somebody who doesn't matter in the cast) and crosses all boundaries to marry the man of her choice even if that amounts to eloping with him without his knowledge! Yeah, you read it right. That's exactly what happens in Running Shaadi, and I want to cross all boundaries in praising this girl who lights up the screen every time she walks in and you just can't take your eyes off her. Taapsee Pannu impressed you in Pink and she proves it in Running Shaadi that her histrionics in the Bachchan starrer were not a fluke.

Just like a marriage that sees good and bad days, Running Shaadi, a romantic comedy about a couple of young upstarts who launch a company to help lovers elope, goes through a good phase and a rocky one. The first half is like the honeymoon stage; all that’s good comes knocking at our door. But it’s disappointing that the story couldn’t sustain the momentum and the promise that it showed initially. It’s also annoying to see characters bleep out the word ‘.com’ in their dialogues due to a lawsuit against the title, which was RunningShaadi.com at first.
