Okay, so perhaps The Legend Of Tarzan, based on Edgar Rice Burrough’s literary classic, isn’t meant to be fun in the way that The Jungle Book is intended. Yet surely the King of the Apes shouldn’t be this dour, this dull, this much of a cure for jetlag? David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films beautifully, appears to have lost his magic touch while working this adventure. He places his Tarzan (a grim Alexander Skarsgard) in a shadowy, dark African jungle. The result is a film that’s bleached of most of its color. A starry cast and hordes of CGI animals don’t elevate the proceedings much.I’m going with two out of five for The Legend of Tarzan. This is a pale, watered-down take on the iconic hero. Perhaps Tarzan was best left in the jungle.

The film has too many things going on at the same time and in the end, it was far from being a worthy roller-coaster adventure ride. Though I got to see the apes, the jungles and Tarzan's infamous vine swinging, it just wasn't enough. And it just wasn't the same. The VFX is a letdown as well. If you have got absolutely nothing to do this weekend, you can kill time watching The Legend of Tarzan. But then, there are always better things to do.

Unlike this year's The Jungle Book which was visually fascinating, this one lacks the visual finesse and palpability. The action is underwhelming and though the earnestness of Alexander Skarsgard works, the overt grim tone of the film is a downer. Yates fails to give his leading man any depth. Though Tarzan wears his brawny side in style but a lack of insight into his psyche, makes the film a weak brew. This Tarzan is sincere but roars tad too late.

Unfortunately, after being served with the likes of The Jungle Book, the CGI for The Legend Of Tarzan seem quite drab. Also, David Yates fails to capture the true spirit of this literary hero unlike his best works with Harry Potter. If you’re looking for just another movie to catch up on, then The Legend Of Tarzan could work for you. Those who may be fans of Tarzan or Hollywood flicks in general will experience disappointment. The Legend Of Tarzan is not impressive when it comes to visual appeal. Skarsgard packs a punch but his signature roar in what could be the third act is too late to revive the audiences to like the film. I am going with a 2/5.
