 Kashyap’s film is not an easy watch. Nevertheless, his exploration into the mind of a killer, who, by his own admission, kills for no reason other than the fact that he wants to, is deeply fascinating. I’m going with three out of five. It’s consistently engaging, but doesn’t get under your skin like some of Kashyap’s other films, particularly Black Friday,Gangs of Wasseypur, and the criminally overlooked Ugly.

 On the whole, Raman Raghav 2.0 is too grim, dark, violent and depressing to entertain. It will appeal to a very thin section of the audience but will face rejection otherwise.

 The film zeroes in on a psychopath's chilling battle of wits, and nerves, with a sleep-deprived, drug-dependent cop in the seedy back alleys of present-day Mumbai. The exercise yields a gripping, visceral genre film that intermittently strays into fuzziness only to lift itself up forcefully enough not to lose momentum. The stylized thriller makes the most of its eight-chapter structure as it hurtles episodically through the nihilism and all-encompassing darkness of Mumbai's criminal underbelly. Extending Kashyap's continuing probe into the horrors of dehumanisation, Raman Raghav 2.0 dives deeper into the cesspit than any of the director's earlier films - to deliver a dystopian study that is at once fascinating and nauseating.

 There is one big surprise in Raman Raghav 2.0, it is Vicky Kaushal's star-making performance, a far turn from his heartbreaking innocent Deepak character in last year's Masaan.As cocaine takes total control of Raghav, the cop starts to break apart. His misogynist acts again makes Raman Raghav 2.0 a difficult film to really admire.Kaushal displays a lot of brave acting, including a terrific confrontation scene with his father (Vipin Sharma in a brief appearance). There is real good cinema in that scene towards the end of the film, and also a reminder that Kashyap has a lot of talent. He just needs to stop making films that are very similar.

 Vicky Kaushal is good but suffers from a poorly sketched character. The biggest problem with Raman Raghav 2.0 is that it glorifies the gore. The climax monologue will run your patience thin. Can you buy the logic that killing for insanity is better than killing in the name of religion? It is crude, callous but in trying to whip up suspense, it loses sight of vulnerability.

 The film is based on the story of the notorious Raman Raghav who infested the streets of Bombay (now Mumbai) in the mid-to-late 1960s.the problem with this film, which doesn’t give its characters enough nuance to go on with. We submit to the unwatchable or to immense depravity in the hope that we will learn something about ourselves as a race.As Raghavan, Kaushal gets a little more.There are some mesmeric bits in here, which belong to Siddiqui. But those are not enough. Without those crucial elements, the film is rendered atmospheric yet hollow, and we are turned into cringing voyeurs, into reluctant participants, without redemption.

 Amruta Subhash is fantastic.We know that Kashyap likes the women in his films badass and thus ultracool, but Sobhita Dhulipala (who plays the girl who Raqhav picks up from a bar) seemed to be stuck in one expression of indifference throughout, making one wonder if she was still figuring out what she’s supposed to do in the whole scheme of things. Also, at two and half hours and with no respite from the relentless gloom, it is a tad too long.It is dark, very dark and deprived of even a shred of dignity. It makes you feel nauseated at the shocking spread of depravity served to you. But then again, it is unique storytelling. Go for it, if you have the suitable palate.

 RAMAN RAGHAV 2.0 is nothing to boast about, it is the film's background music (Ram Sampath), that, more than makes up for the film's music. The film's background music acts as a catalyst between the film's script and the characters. The film's cinematography (Jay Oza) is spot on and apt. Here, a special mention goes to the usage of guerrilla filmmaking techniques, which helps the film look more realistic. The film's editing (Aarti Bajaj) is loose and scenes drag endlessly. To be more specific, had the film been trimmed by almost 15-20 minutes or so, it would have been a different story altogether. On the whole, though RAMAN RAGHAV 2.0 promises to be an edgy thriller, the film fails to deliver. It is only Nawazuddin's brilliant performance that helps you sit through this 140 mins long film

 It’s hard to imagine what Raman Raghav 2.0 could have been had it been made by a different director. It’s a film that utterly suits the style of Anurag Kashyap; yet he fails to create a captivating experience. This ends up making Nawazuddin Siddiqui the saving grace in the end, and he handles this responsibility like a boss. Raman Raghav 2.0 is to be watched if you wish to dive into the convoluted mind of a serial killer. If you’re not interested in that, you can give this one a miss. It’s a 2.5-star film in my opinion, but the excellent performance from Nawazuddin Siddiqui forces me to turn the rating into 3/5 stars.

 The story moves at a steady pace through chapters, but loses steam slightly after the interval. There are a couple of murders which really didn’t need to be part of the story. We were quite familiar with Ramanna’s depravity from the scene where he murders his sister and her husband and young son. Or, the one where he spends the day in a filthy drain, breathing through a hose, to escape the police. At times it can feel as if you are being bludgeoned. But Kashyap’s thriller will keep you glued to your seat in spite of an expected end. Both Kaushal and Dhulipala come up with brilliant performances, but it is truly Siddiqui who steals the show.

 Settling into a more cost-effective setting in contemporary Mumbai, the current film has plenty of edge and grit, but lacks the spirit of spoof that makes high levels of violence palatable. Apart from the director's cult following abroad, it seems most suited to the tastes of Indian viewers. In fact, all the women characters (two swinging singles and two maids, to be precise) are despised and mistreated, and not just because the muscle-bound cop has to use Viagra to meet their demands. Variety and depth of character are badly lacking on the female front, weakening the whole film

 “Psycho Raman” often entertains most with its most lurid formal, musical and narrative gambits, from the electrifying, strobe-tastic assault of the film’s nightclub-set opening sequence to the cranked-up rat-in-a-trap terror of its finale, which closes with ample (if not exactly upbeat) potential for a 3.0 sequel. Domestic commercial returns for this unabashedly sensation-seeking outing may well be healthy enough to give that possibility a blood-spattered green light, though one hopes Kashyap — whose limber, enthusiastic work here jolts more than it actively surprises — has his eye on fresh genre terrain to exploit.
