Crazy Cukkad Family Hindi Movie Review

If you give a funny twist to a probable sequel of Baghban, it could end up looking like this. However, what puts a break on this potentially quirky laughter ride is its predictable story. From a gay love track and happily-ever-after climax to the property dispute... you can foretell every twist in the plot. Also, jokes about item girl Cherry doing her 'hot pakoda' dance in slowmo seems irrelevant.Overall, the characters are crazy enough to amuse you with their shenanigans. If you don't mind a cliched story, Beri villa is worth a visit.

Crazy Cukkad Family has lyricist Swanand Kirkire in the principal role of a lout out to make a right royal nuisance of himself. He is not bad at all. And neither is Shilpa Shukla as the woman determined to give the men in her family a run for their money. But when actors are made to spout lines that add up to naught, they can only tie themselves up in knots. A wild goose chase is always avoidable, especially when it assumes the form of a full-fledged film.

A situation like this is ripe for black humour, and a sharp comedy of manners. There are moments when the film seems to get it, but then squanders the chance, and gets back to being broad and obvious. And dull. There’s also an attempt at being different, in the shape of a couple of offbeat partners that the brothers and sisters possess (one lives out his fantasies in drag, the other is in a same sex relationship). You wish more were made of these. And of the title, which is nice and snappy. Too bad the film isn’t.

Crazy Cukkad Family has a lame story and screenplay too follows the formula of picking up from here and there. The biggest strength of a low budget film is its story and performances but this film is a big zero as far as story is concerned. Go watch Crazy Cukkad family if you can laugh watching any comedy or if you want your family to learn the lesson of unity.

The narrative hinges itself on satire, however, the melodrama towards the end dilutes the humour; that could have been avoided. That apart, Ritesh Menon’s direction is confident and his portrayal of characters, engaging. Kudos to the editing team for keeping the film under two hours, a minute more and it could have easily flown off the rails. But overall Crazy Cukkad Family manages to be a decent balance of chuckles, LOLs and WTFs.

Even though this is Ritesh Menon's debut film, the film looks promising in parts. While he succeeds in keeping the first half of the film tight, it's the wavering second half that acts as a disjoint to the film's flow. The film could have been made a bit stronger in its direction. Even if he had changed the (bizarre) climax into a more believable one, things would have been a bit different. On the whole, CRAZY KUKKAD FAMILY is decent one time watch.

The idea of presenting a money-minded madcap household might have looked good on paper, but it doesn’t work as a film in the absence of a strong conflict line. The sibling rivalry looks forced and typical because the story unfolds in a very banal manner. The editor has done a fantastic job by keeping the length of the film just under 90 minutes. It stops CCF from becoming a tedious watch. In the end, Crazy Cukkad Family lacks freshness and is a rework of many Bollywood films. You may like it in bits and pieces, but overall it’s just an average film.
