 For a time when sci-fi movies are a dime a dozen, Passengers at least gets its plot right. There are no complications of wars between galaxies or superheroes in space. Instead, it’s simply about a man and a woman bound by helplessness and hope. Passengers is Hollywood’s answer to the star-studded Bollywood blockbusters of the 70s, where anything and everything could happen because it was happening to big stars on screen. Here too, it’s mostly only Pratt and Lawrence who manage to keep you in your seat. It’s a great-looking film with an original idea. Watch it for its stars but it won’t have an astronomical impact on you.

 Passengers could have been one of the best films of our time. Millions of miles away from Earth, we could have gotten a window into the psyche of humanity: why do we do the things we do, how desperate are we for a connection and a purpose or can selfishness ever be justified? However, all we got was a sloppy excuse that suddenly turned into an adventure flick in the last and most important 30 minutes.The effects or the experience of the movie doesn’t stand anywhere in comparison to the slew of exceptional sci-fi films we have had the good fortune to witness recently. So even if you are interested in nothing but space and spaceships, I suggest you pop on a Gravity or Interstellar Blu-Ray instead.

 If only. Not only is it all downhill from here, the film drags down with it Pratt and Lawrence, two winsome stars who have also shown themselves to be wonderful actors. There is a romance strung on Aurora’s so-called brilliance with words, which is anything but. There is an affair that quickly loses its charm. And there is the inevitable crisis aboard that is so hilariously unexplained that the best “engineer” Jim can come up with is: “Look for something broken… something big

Passengers Story: 

On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim and Aurora face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction... until they discover the ship is in grave danger.
