If you had even the tiniest doubt or uncertainty about Nawazauddin Siddiqui’s place in the pantheon of great Indian actors, you only have to watch him in Haraamkhor. He plays a selfish, manipulative teacher who begins a relationship with an underage female student, and it’s a performance steeped in subtlety and complexity.I’m going three out of five for Haraamkhor. Haraamkhor is the story of a desperately lonely teenage girl and her predatory teacher, who abuses her sexually, physically and psychologically. I hope I haven’t turned you off with that introduction. Yes, Haraamkhor is horrific, but it’s also morbidly funny and moving. When a first-time director dares not to opt for the easy way out, the act has to be deemed a happy augury. Shlok Sharma's Haraamkhor is a courageous film. It tackles a twisted and thorny theme with commendable sensitivity. However, a few of the crucial creative choices that the debutant makes - the shaky handheld camerawork, the abrupt tonal shifts and the fragmentary narrative - do not come off in their entirety.The tempo of the place seems to have overly rubbed off on the film's structure and pacing, taking some of the sting out of its dark, disturbing premise.Visit Site For More

In this debut feature, a familiar sordid tale unfolds in a North Indian ‘kasba’: a bright-eyed pubescent girl falls for an older man, and takes the relationship into a space we barely acknowledge, let alone depict in our movies. Overall, despite some strong moments, the film suffers from slightness and disjointedness: did the censorship process snip off more than we could chew? Was there more? What shines in this otherwise bold but ambiguous film are the performances and Mukesh Chhabra’s impeccable casting, especially when it comes to the young boys. Shweta Tripathi stuns you as a 31-year-old, playing a 14 something with her understated portrayal. Nawazuddin Siddiqui once again proves why he is considered to be one of the finest actors of today. He is effortlessly flawless and evokes diverse emotions like anger, disdain and laughter with an easy nonchalance. I think it goes a little deeper to examine what it takes for a girl to consensually give in to such a relationship. She is clearly a ‘love addict’. According to psychology, that’s a direct consequence of a neglected childhood. You know her relationship with the teacher isn’t going to go too far. How far will this film travel? Not sure. No one ever is. It is, however, a very interesting take worth the big screen, if not in the theatre, then ideally in the comfort of home since Netflix or Amazon very much allow such options.Visit Site For More

The biggest hiccup in the film is its slow pace. 'Haraamkhor' has good performances to watch but it won’t appeal to the masses. Unfortunately, when it does come there is a sense that everything that preceded it was designed to lead up to it and, as grisly as it is, like everything before, this scene too does not move you. Haraamkhor is definitely not everyone’s cup thanks to its gritty subject. However it is not exactly a fantastic piece of art either, even though it had the potential to be one.
