PK Hindi Movie Review

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By:  Rajeev Masand  Site:CNN IBN
PK sticks faithfully to Hirani's well-oiled formula, and yet there is no question that it's a courageous film. Packed with sharp dialogue and genuinely funny moments that offset the lack of subtlety, it is easily one of the year's better films. I'm going with three-and-a-half out of five for PK; the director's best since Lage Raho Munnabhai.

PK features brave scenes - money extracted at temples, coconuts offered in confusion at a church, god-men doling out tortuous advice - and strong lines, including a Muslim girl bravely asserting, "Itna chota nahin ho sakta hamara khuda, ki use hamare school jaane pe aitraaz ho." Capturing faith whipped into hate, PK's sterling message, directed sensitively, stands out. Its amusing insights and bold message make PK hit home. Appreciate its truths - which aren't so alien after all.

PK is no satire -- it's a bit too toothless for that -- but it is a rollicking mainstream entertainer with ambition to evoke some introspection, one with compelling moments and some genuine surprises. Including a humdinger of a last scene.Make one more, Mr Hirani, make a sequel and take us to the planet of the naked. (We promise not to stare that hard.)

On the whole, PK is an outstanding entertainer with a strong message relevant to all human beings. It will easily prove to be one of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters, probably, the biggest also. It has all chances to emerge as the first film to cross the Rs. 300-crore mark.

Beneath its vibrant bouts of humour, PK mocks at the societal arrangement we have grown apathetic to.When PK works, it does with great merit, spunk and surprise. When it does not, it meanders, sermonises and guilt trips exactly in the tone of the one it reproaches.

Bollywood enthusiasts who value their intelligence - and their hard-earned money - finally have reason to rejoice. PK is here. Rajkumar Hirani's first film in five years is a warm, funny and piercingly provocative satire that should blow the blues away.

PK is a fun film with proper dose of ‘gyaan’. It’s a film that shouldn’t be missed and it’s brave because it attempts to create a better world. Another winner from Rajkumar Hirani. It would be hard to stop it from owning the box-office as well. And yes, don’t leave the theatre till the credit rolls. There is a surprise for you.

Though the storytelling is seamless, PK does seem to lack the punch that his earlier films had. Though the screenplay of the film is comprehensive and engrossing, with humorous situations and entertaining dialogues, the narrative does get slow at a certain points. PK however hits the right notes and entertains. On the whole, Aamir Khan's PK is a solid entertainer that will surely entertain the masses and classes alike. An outstanding film. Go for it.

That lack of guile leads us to believe in PK, and makes the film, up till the seamless first half, a terrific watch. Post interval, it slumps. The focus, which till then is on a character who intrigues us while interesting things are happening to him, gets diluted by a wholly superfluous romance , and a face-off between the guy awash in other-worldly goodness who asks all the right questions and the bad godman who has all the wrong answers.

PK, somehow doesn’t quite measure up to their own standards. It falls short on many levels. If you’re looking for a film in the league of the Munnabhais and 3 Idiots, PK is not even close. But it’s still a must-see for many reasons, and by that, I mean the protagonists.

PK is a rare film, they do not make them like that anymore. This one is a delight for all its silly, comic, serious and witty nature all rolled into one. There is little to disagree with in this film and certainly if you want to sit, laugh and still go home thinking and reviewing some of your daily actions. Watch it for all its novel ideas and the innocence with which PK conveys them.

`PK` has enough substance to keep you hooked to your seats for the entire run time. If you find your attention wavering in the first half, the second half of the movie will put your doubts to rest. The story only gets interesting and picks up pace towards the end.

If I had not seen Oh My God (2012) then PK would be a pleasant surprise but that doesn't take away anything from this masterpiece. All the credit for this goes to the captain of the ship, the genius filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani who has raised the bar once again. PK is an absolute must watch film and watch it before your friends tell you all the surprise elements in detail.

The plot bore uncanny resemblance to OMG (Oh! My God) .You cannot afford to miss this! Aamir has once again proved why he’s ahead of his contemporaries as a visionary and a thinker! We bet you will watch PK more than once.
