With a plot that had the potential to transform into an engaging and outrageous entertainer, GHANCHAKKAR gets repetitive and tedious after Gupta introduces the four pivotal characters. The post-interval portions have their moments, but they are few and far between. The spectator gets immersed in the narrative, albeit briefly, when the finger of suspicion points towards Vidya. But the culmination to the tale throws a wet blanket. It would be unfair to reveal the twist in the tale, but all I can say is that the film should've ended on a terrific note, but it doesn't. On the whole, GHANCHAKKAR has splendid performances by its principal cast, but the bland and tedious narrative plays spoilsport. This one disheartens!

For the viewer, part of the fun begins here. The constant sparring between Emraan and Vidya and the bickering between the three thieves is funny. But the pace is slow and when the situations and jokes start getting repetitive, you want to pull your hair. There is an unusual climax to look forward to. Yet, the ground rule for thrillers is that they cannot unfold at such a languid pace.

the first half soon puts the mood in order with some hilarious sequences and a decent plot that keeps the audience guessing how it's going to end.After this third film, one can only surmise that Gupta gets enthused with some terrific ideas and heads straight for the shooting floor without thinking them through entirely. Ghanchakkar is all very well as it flags off, but it's mostly downhill after it hits its high point in the first fifteen minutes.

Parvez Sheikh’s story is childish. It rests on a weak premise. Also, it is a comedy which suddenly turns into a serious suspense drama with bloodshed and gore towards the end. On the whole, Ghanchakkar is not half as funny as it ought to have been. Since it doesn’t make the audience laugh or even smile much, it will fail to make the distributors laugh all the way to the bank. In fact, it will find the going at the box-office tough and will entail losses to all concerned.

The finest, most fascinating mysteries are the ones where we find the red herrings stashed away in plain sight all along. In Raj Kumar Gupta's Ghanchakkar, the true clue to the proceedings is barely hidden. What is exasperating is how good it is right up to the third act, right up to the point when the people plotting this clever and twisty story decided not to type out any more ideas and let the film remain an almighty mess.But despite all the merry tomfoolery, a film like Ghanchakkar depends more on the meat of the story than on its execution. And somewhere through the second half, it stops being funny and becomes inane precisely at the time when it should have showed off its intelligence.

The fundamental concept of Ghanchakkar is intriguing all right, but it simply isn’t sturdy enough to bear the weight of an entire two hour-plus film. Ghanchakkar tries very, very hard to raise a few laughs. You might hear a chuckle here and a giggle there, but the comic situations are far too laboured to leave a lasting impression.Despite its surprise ending, Ghanchakkar fails to engage. It is overstretched, flimsy and ineffectual. Ghanchakkar is strictly for those that are easy to tickle and shock. One character, the one with the gun, sums it up best: “I don’t know what is going on and who is taking whom for a ride.” Heed the warning!

Ghanchakkar sets up trying-to-go-straight safe-breaker Sanju, and his blowsy trying-to-be fashion-forward wife Neetu, and a couple of rogues, around a bank heist, and lets them loose. This could have been a hoot, but the execution lets down the premise, and the film remains one of those that could have been edgier and funnier. Like some spouses who need additional spice to keep interest from flagging, the unexpected appearance of an extra character perks up the film, and gives us a near-rousing end. Nice wrap, making you wish the rest of the film was as sharp.

While the premise is interesting, Gupta could have spent more time doctoring the screenplay. The second half springs up many loopholes that are glaring in your face with discrepancies. Sanju and Neetu's chemistry, especially their banter in the early first half seems forced. The soundtrack isn't memorable, but the background score gives the film the right mood. Technically the film might have the right tone, but there is something amiss in its fabric. Ghanchakkar has a few memorable scenes, but on the whole it feels like a rushed effort.

What’s Good: A nail-biting thrilling comedy and the stellar performances of the film’s cast. What’s Bad: The pace that occasionally hits the speed breaker. Watch or Not?: Rajkumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar is valiant effort to alter the comic dimensions of Bollywood. Refraining from rugged humor, the film is packed judiciously with laughs and wit, along with stellar performances from a straight faced Emraan Hashmi and an overtly outlandish Vidya Balan.

He tickles us with one of the most thrilling comedies, one that blatantly defies Bollywood stereotypes. No buffoonery. No over-the-top characters (barring one). No slapstick moments. Just normal situations that get twisted and turned due to one man’s fading memory.Yet, the jokes never run out and are paced sensibly, allowing us to appreciate Rajkumar Gupta’s vision. After exploring the gritty world of crime in the humourless ‘Aamir’ and ‘No One Killed Jessica’, Rajkumar decides to give his third thriller a witty twist. One that truly deserves an applause.

Love suspense? Love comedy? Love Vidya Balan? So, Ghanchakkar is going to be a perfect entertainer for you this weekend.This is for once Emraan Hashmi's film and by far his best performance till date.For a thriller like Ghanchakkar, screenplay of the film has to be gripping form the beginning and director Raj Kumar Gupta passes the test with full marks. Last 25 minutes of the movie are brilliantly executed and have spine-chilling moments. But biggest loophole of the film is also in the end.
