Chal Bhaag Movie Reviews

CHAL BHAAG goes haywire right from the word go. The film has an interesting premise, but the director doesn't have the grip on the plot and it shows in the film. The same goes for the film's music. The songs are forced in the narrative to get the film going. The sole saving grace is its background score. The flaws could have been covered had the editing been razor-sharp. On the whole, CHAL BHAAG is a dull fare.

Tarun Bajaj has penned a routine story and a commonplace screenplay. The drama unfolds without really involving the audience because it moves in quite a predictable fashion. There is not even a hint of novelty in the film and it looks like an assemblage of incidents and scenes seen in earlier films. On the whole, Chal Bhaag has entertaining dialogues as its biggest plus point. But the terribly immature and routine script will tell on the business of this action comedy which will, therefore, flop at the ticket windows.

Chal Bhaag attempts to shed light on a serious issue like the police's fake encounters. While the motive and twists in the story are interesting, the comic execution ruins it. You don't see any humour in the situations or the characters. It's tragic, in fact, and the film would have still worked had it been a black comedy. The gravity of the situation comes across in a light-hearted manner initially but the randomness of it all, introduction of multiple characters, inconsequential dialogues, etc., convolutes the paper-thin plot. Item numbers further make the formulaic film forgettable

Chal Bhaag may have looked like a screwball crime comedy on paper, but you'd be hard pressed to come across a more awfully-executed production this year. The story is of little consequence because the makers get the basics and technicalities all wrong. They are at odds with the concept of background music, instead relying on Tom-and-Jerry sound effects to single out nonexistent punchlines. Characters' lines rarely sync with their lip movement, and shots are cut mid-dialogue to leave viewers reeling with an amateur student-film syndrome. In spirit of the ongoing World Cup, if Chal Bhaag were a football team, it would be relegated to tier 3 of qualifying on the first day of the season.
