Although the film attempts to bring up issues such as land acquisition, beef ban in Uttar Pradesh and suppression of the minorities, it just scratches the surface. One wonders why the scriptwriters even bothered bringing up these topics in such a superficial manner. All in all, Shorgul had the potential to be a great movie but directors Jitendra Tiwari and P Singh seem lazy and incompetent.Visit Site For More

Though the debate between Gandhian values versus politics based on religion is interesting, the makers scratch it only at the surface. The writers keep themselves busy in killing one character after another. Expecting the film to paint a comprehensive picture of the communal feelings of common people or offering a solution to the general animosity that triggers tension every time there is a mishap, is clearly expecting too much. Is the film gritty? No. Is it emotional? No. Is the love story worth the bloodshed? No. Is it worth your money? You know the answer. Give this frivolous fare a miss!Visit Site For More

Shorgul is purportedly about the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots but, thanks to the censors, the UP town isn't mentioned even once. It is replaced by Malihabad. It is difficult to fathom how that makes any difference to the substance of the film - whatever there is of it. Shorgul is so horridly ham-handed that it merits no rating as a film. But for the statement that it strives to make, no matter how feebly and incoherently, it deserves one star. And that is all it's worth.Visit Site For More

If I say this is one of the worst films of the year, that would be an understatement. By reducing the causes for the trouble to a misunderstood romance and attributing Ranjit’s machinations to personal ambition rather than a dangerous attempt at social re-engineering, Singh and Tiwari make Shorgul yet another generic riots movie rather than a specific exploration of the reasons for Muzzafarnagar. The movie opens by expressing its gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav, whose poor leadership during the Muzaffarnagar riots seems to have been forgotten by the filmmakers.Visit Site For More

This film is a classic case of haphazard filmmaking. Jingoistic dialogues, untimely appearing songs and shoddy camerawork pull this film down. Shorgul is easily passable. This is a regressive film that one may watch to learn ‘What not to do when directing a film’. Shorgul is a missed opportunity! The film is white noise with all possible cliches from a political drama clubbed with hard-hitting issues rolled into dramatic dialogues. I’d say in the words of Chaudhary, if ‘Insaniyat’ is your ‘Dharam’, give this film a miss! A 1.5/5 it is.Visit Site For More
